Green Immune Boosting Smoothie (Zingy & Powerful)

As the weather heats up I find myself craving lighter, fresher, zingier foods.

With a bit of experimentation, I’ve come to perfect the ultimate summer green immune boosting smoothie that’s not only super refreshing and tasty but also packed with legendary ingredients for peak health and energy.

So, why is this superfood smoothie immune boosting and zingy?

Cause…packed with superfoods spinach, kiwi, avocado, apple and ginger, this green smoothie absolutely dominates in the health department, and with the lemon, ginger and kiwi it has a particularly zingy flavour you’ll get hooked on.

But, before we get to the recipe, why should you get excited about a green superfood smoothie with kiwi, spinach, avocado and apple?

Let’s dig in shall we:

Spinach: 

Packed with niacin, zinc, protein, and fibre, along with a host of vitamins (A, B6, C, E and K) and minerals (thiamin, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese) you know you are doing your body a load of good with this fabulous green, that doesn’t taste too “green”.

Kiwi: 

Low in fructose and high in vitamin C and E this zingy fruit is your go-to for skin health, anti-aging and boosting immunity. Yep, all wrapped up in one cute furry package.

Ginger:

Since I started added ginger to my green smoothies, I have actually developed cravings for them. Y’all know ginger kicks ass at reducing inflammation, supporting digestion, and eliminating toxins in your temple.

Apple/Pear:

I’ve begun freezing small bits of apple and pear before they get soft and chucking them in smoothies for added fibre and sweetness. The age-old wisdom stands true: an apple a day keeps the doc away.

Mint:

A refreshing herb that cleanses the palette, promotes digestions and clears congestion, whilst giving this smoothie some A-grade flavour.

Cucumber:

Next level your hydration levels with cucumbers in smoothies. The high fibre and water content of cucumbers bulks out your smoothie whilst packing in more goodies like B vitamins, potassium and antioxidant flavonoids.

Chia Seeds:

Soaked chia seeds add a protein hit to this smoothie, along with dietary fibre, to keep you fuller longer. You’ll also be glowing from the omega 3s and antioxidants.

Lemon:

Chock-full of vitamin C and detoxifying properties, lemons will rejuvenate the skin and support your liver through all those tough times you put it through during the silly season ;).

Avocado:

For dem healthy fats and creamy texture, there’s no fruit as star-worthy as the almighty avocado. It’s one of the fattiest plant foods known to man (77%), but also one of the most nutritious (and delicious).

Now for the Green Immune Boosting Smoothie Recipe you’ve all been waiting for…

Ingredients:

  • 1 handful of frozen/fresh spinach
  • 1 Tbs fresh/frozen ginger (I find it much easier to grate when frozen – you don’t even need to peel it)
  • 1 x frozen kiwi (cut in pieces)
  • 5-7 small pieces of frozen pear/apple
  • Small handful of fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 of 1 large English cucumber
  • 2 Tbs soaked chia seeds
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
  • 1/2 a small avo or 1/4 of a large avo
  • 1/2 cup water
  • ~3 drops of stevia (optional for added sweetness)

Method:

Place all ingredients in a blender or Nutribullet and blend until smooth.

Drink.

Digest.
